No matter where you stand politically, witnessing a colossal gold statue of Donald Trump looming over a crowd, while religious figures convene to consecrate it as though it were some sacred icon, is not just disturbing—it’s a stark descent into something more sinister. This isn’t love of country or devotion to faith. It’s politics masquerading as religion.

Scripture repeatedly cautions against false deities, golden icons, and men who crave allegiance, adulation, and unquestioning loyalty above honesty, virtue, and even God. And yet, here we are, observing adults stand beneath a gigantic golden effigy dubbed “Don Colossus,” venerating a politician as if he were anointed by the divine.
The same voices that have spent years invoking Christianity as a moral standard have turned a politician into an untouchable messiah figure. Endless scandals, multiple felony convictions, attacks on the vulnerable, nonstop lies, open revenge politics, and now a literal gold statue built in his image—and still, many continue to offer him a kind of emotional and spiritual deference that refuses to call for accountability.
And before anyone dismisses this as mere symbolism, remember: symbols hold power. History bears witness to perilous movements where political leaders transcended public service and became objects of adoration. Such transformations never bode well.
Faith should instill humility, not convert people into disciples of a man so exalted that even mild criticism seems sacrilegious to his followers.
This is precisely how cults of personality take root—not suddenly, but incrementally, until principles are forsaken and one man is defended regardless of his words or deeds.
A golden idol. Religious leaders praying at its base. In America.
